I have recently moved from Virginia to Oklahoma and my buddy always had plenty of decoys. Now that I am in Oklahoma I am starting to acquire my own decoys. So my question is if I just buy a set of mallard decoys right now (money is tight) and use those will that be sufficient for this season? or should I go ahead and spend the money on a set of coot decoys or something like that?

I would use what you have, and when money allows you to, buy some teal, gadwalls, pintial, widgeon, mallard, woodduck decoys.  What ever duck you have that flys in you flyway, I would buy those kind of decoys.  Have manly mallards.   just my 2 cents.
